One of the star articles in this journal is that written by a Chinese academic, Xiao Ren and is titled ‘The G20: Emerging Chinese Leadership in Global Governance?’ The article has only been written by one author who has been named in the journal as the sole writer. This note has been made at the beginning of the article and the authority of the author has been established first of all by the fact that the writer is a Chinese academic who has done lots of research in the topic as evident from the work presented and that he has also lived to see the subject of his work in action in his country. The content in the article is very specific and easy to understand. It is specific in the fact that the information and the statistics presented are all central to the Chinese political issues, government, and economics which are all centered around the question on how they have affected the leadership of the country in global governance.
It can be stated that the article is rhetorically effective. According to Aristotle, the term rhetoric means the art of discerning the means of persuasion available in any scenario which involves communication. By this definition therefore, rhetorical; effectiveness means the art of being effective by using every means of persuasion available e.g. facts, emotions, evidence, examples, stories styles of argument among others. It means being able to communicate in a very compelling and clear way. By this definition, the article can be stated to be rhetorically effective through the criteria of structure. The article contains an abstract, introduction, endnotes and footnotes, methods, result and discussion which have all been laid out properly to drive the point of the article home. The tone used is informative and authoritative and the writer addresses the audience through both short and long well structured sentences. An example is this:
